trigger warning - I promise - no animals were hurt in the writing of this poem!
Two birds of song my hands did hold
protected from that bitter cold
that froze my heart, that chilled my soul
like water placed in a frozen bowl.
two nations torn two brothers bent
against each other in conflict sent.
An ancient prophecy thus foretold
Of what must be done to save my soul.
The first twas held in my right
blacker than the darkest night
feathers rough from the wearing of time
speckled with worldly dust and grime.
the second then, held in the left
not a sinister beast but heavenly sent
white as snow new-fallen at dawn
smooth as the skin of a newborn fawn
It had come to this, there was none else to do.
It was mine to see this lesson through.
Unsheathing my knife, that cruel device,
through the belly of the first I carefully sliced.
The awful thing done, I resumed my task
and set about to give the second its bath
showering it with the blood that drained
from the first as the prophets explained.
Now you may ask, why such a ghastly thing?
How could you kill a bird that sings
in blood colder than ice that ends all fire?
What end from this could you possibly desire?
Now these remain good questions all.
But this was known ere the time of Saul.
To cure any illness or sickness of mind,
take your attention away from thoughts unkind.
Bathe the new in the savior’s blood.
Let it fly free from the muck and mud.
Sprinkle by Seven the blood of life
And be redeemed; an end to strife
Two nations, two brothers exist in your womb.
Two ways of living, two thoughts entombed.
For this is the prescription, the cure for pain.
The younger shall over the elder reign.
In the Bible, there are many stories of choices between two things - most often two brothers. Cain and Abel, Jacob and Esau may be the best known. But one of the strangest stories of the entire great work is a prescription for a cure for leprosy given in Leviticus 14.
Keep in mind that leprosy was about the worst affliction imaginable in those times - akin to the AIDS epidemic in the 80’s. Since there was no cure or treatment, lepers were isolated completely from society. It is hard to imagine how awful an experience that must have been.
The formula to cure leprosy involves killing a bird and draining it of its blood, then bathing the second bird in the blood of the first, and finally releasing it to fly free. Then the leper was to be sprinkled SEVEN TIMES with the blood, and they would be pronounced clean and be cured.
5 And the priest shall command that one of the birds be killed in an earthen vessel over running water:
6 As for the living bird, he shall take it, and the cedar wood, and the scarlet, and the hyssop, and shall dip them and the living bird in the blood of the bird that was killed over the running water:
7 And he shall sprinkle upon him that is to be cleansed from the leprosy seven times, and shall pronounce him clean, and shall let the living bird loose into the open field.
Most would dismiss this as pure insanity, or evidence of some weird superstition. But all it means is to remove attention (lifeblood) from your affliction (the first bird) and direct all your energy, focus, and imagination toward the desired state!
When you do this Seven times (“Seven” meaning until it is manifest) You are relieved of your affliction. Whatever that thing is that you worry about. That keeps you up all night, weighing on your soul.
When seen in this light, you see that the authors of the Bible were not the savages we might imagine, but possessors of divine insight!
Also, I must acknowledge the great Neville Goddard for making sense of the mystery, And inspiring this macabre yet mystical poem!
Hope this was beneficial, and that it didn't turn your stomach too much!
