Hello friend!
This is the continuation of an epic poem that I am releasing in an episodic fashion. Eventually, I hope to create a children’s book out of it, complete with fantastical illustrations by my very own daughter!
If you missed the first three, I suggest you start at the link below. You can also read more about my inspiration there!
A Song of Shadows and Light
Introducing my fantasy-ish, fairytale-ish, Game-of-Thrones-y epic poem!

Ergon rode without stopping, til his feet lay on the Sod
Of the darkest of forests — the shadow land of Zod
Where wizards ruled cruelly with a magical rod
whose people worshipped a vain and a vengeful god
In fairly short order, he met the sorcerer Tizold
And plied him with flattery and promises of gold
Quickly to his cause the wizard was sold
So lured was he by visions of riches untold

The frightening leader of the greediest clan
Tizold was an envious and leacherous man
And so thinking in the way that only the most villainous can
The sorcerer unveiled before him a treacherous plan
To assault the kingdom would be a foolish leap
You have no army my prince, you’re far, far too weak
But to kill the prince outright we need not speak
For by my spell cast, one thousand years his soul will sleep
![](https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/w_1456,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F45741d8c-42fc-4d9d-b145-2fc56c7b179e_800x450.jpeg)
And then, with the king now appearing so ill
A second spell is cast on your uncle, he so weak of will
a curse to suck up his spirit, as if into a pill
Thereby leaving a shell, for your spirit to fill
But why should I leave him? The child I will slay!
Take heed, for these two rules must be obeyed
To harm the king’s body, the spell you betray
And his eyes must not meet sunshine — Not one single ray
Meanwhile in Ernoch, sad feelings did abound
On that mournful day when the king was laid in the ground
But soon enough would come trumpets and joyful sounds
As the new king named Solen, on his royal throne was crowned
Restored was the land’s happiness, but only until
With a mysterious sickness, the king would fall gravely ill
For only to sleep, it was to be great God’s will
Another tragic day, where many tears would be spilled

With the seeing of the king incapacitated as so
The elders knew well, there was only one way to go
To the king’s brother Huronis, the crown it must flow
Despite his interest in ruling being lower than low
Peering in the glass of a great crystal ball
Tizold saw a vision of Ernoch’s great hall
Seeing for another coronation, the gathering of all
He knew it was time for the next spell to fall

Will Ergon’s gambit succeed? Will Solen ever awake? What will become of the fair people of Ernoch?
