A note: this will likely be my last post for a little while, As I am taking some time off with my wife on this holiday weekend! I’ll miss you, my friends, but I will be so excited to come back and see you again soon!
Many years ago, I read a terrific book, The Art of Asking by Amanda Palmer.
In it, the artist (a singer in case you weren’t familiar with her already) relates her growth in becoming comfortable with asking. Especially in asking for money.
She struggled for many years with asking people for things, thinking about how people would perceive her. She thought that they would think her greedy. selfish — basically unlovable.
But when she finally opened up and learned to be a gracious asker and receiver, she was rewarded with abundance she never thought possible.
I’ve had the same struggles. But I had a profound insight yesterday, that exploded into my mind, changing my perception forever. And I wanted to share it with you. And I pray it will have the same effect.
Yesterday, I published this post on Medium.
And as I typically do, I was set to cross-post it to my Substack. (Yes I do that — and don’t feel a bit bad about it)
But before I did I had a divine revelation. And I ended up making it a paid post, my first one ever, attaching this brief(ish) message to the front of it.
Hello, my dear friend! How lovely of you to join me today! I AM so grateful that you are here — because I have a lesson for you today that I am so excited to share!
But before we get to that, I have an important message I need to share first, so indulge me a minute while I go into a bit of preamble. But believe me, it will be worth your time to read it!
This will be my first paid post.
I composed this post yesterday. First, while walking my dogs at lunchtime, dictating it into my iPhone, and then later developed it into a full lesson.
When I was done, I looked at it and thought “This is really valuable. Maybe even good enough to make it a paid post!”
Then I asked this question - “Should I make this a paid post?”. I wrote it down in my Kindle, and then I went to sleep, confident in the knowledge that my question would be answered.
And this is the answer I received from the divine:
“Nothing is received without asking first. The only reason you do not ask is because you believe you are unworthy. You judge yourself and find yourself to be lacking. The Son of God is not unworthy, and yours is every good thing that you ask for. Do not hesitate in this, for it is the next step of your unfoldment. Trust in this. I have never led you astray. And I do not do so now.”
Now some of you may decide that I’m an awful person, become disheartened and cynical, and unsubscribe two seconds after reading this.
Others may just skip over it and wait until I publish a free post.
Both of these I understand and accept. That is your path, and it is fine. It is not mine to change it.
But for those of willing to take the next step, there is a profound insight here that has the power to change EVERYTHING about your life — if you take its message to heart.
I hope and pray that you dare to take that step — and make that transformation.
Every time
you send out a post
pen a poem
paint a picture
publish a book
create a sculpture
compose a song
Believe that 10,000 people will see it,
will be inspired by it,
And will change their lives because of it.
BELIEVE this,
And DO NOT STOP believing this,
Until it comes to be…
in this world of “reality”.
Your potential is limitless!
As broad as the sea, as high as the sky.
Never consider, but for even a moment,
That any of God’s goodness doth pass you by.
Like I said earlier, this will be my last post for at least a week.
I know you’re sad — but don’t despair! I will return with even more delicious poetry and stories of spiritual growth to comfort and nourish your beautiful soul!

The art of asking is a wonderful book.
& this post describes what happens when someone takes those advice and apply it.
