I’ve been writing on Substack for nearly 6 months, and in that time I’ve met so many wonderful writers. So I wanted to introduce you to a couple of my favorites.
(and, to my friends wondering why I did this, after already making it a podcast earlier this week, I’ll let you know that I created a text version so I could post it on Medium, as well as creating a video to post on TikTok to draw people over here - so - you’re welcome!)
The Rewind
My first friend I want to introduce you to goes simply by the moniker “The Rewind”. I’m sure she has a name, but she has not revealed that to me yet. Maybe she will after she sees this!
I have included her here because she is the kindest, sweetest, most giving person I know. Despite enduring a childhood which, if her writing about it has even a shred of truthfulness, I can only describe as “horrific”, she has emerged, though bruised and battered, as a beacon of hope and love.
She writes with a rawness and passion and with such masterful use of the language that I am filled with awe every time I read her work.
On top of that, she manages to read and support more writers than I would think humanly possible, as I constantly see her “restacks” on my feed.
But, as I always say, don’t take my word for it. As the saying goes, the proof is in the pudding. Go read her stuff and experience her magic for yourself. And then, as you find yourself basking in the warm glow of her soul, you can silently thank me.
Also, the Black and White photographs that accompany her post are SENSATIONAL!
Laura W. — Meowmix
My second friend that I am honored to introduce is Laura W.
Laura is maybe my oldest friend on Substack and is another immensely supportive, kind, and loving soul.
She writes in a conversational style that draws you in, instantly puts you at ease, and makes you feel like you are talking to an old friend, even if you’ve just met. The kind of person that is simply a joy to be around.
We have bonded in many ways. Over our love of musicals, our pets, and our love of reading! She is one of the most voracious readers I know. I love to read her synopsis of the books she’s read because I can literally feel the love she has for the books she writes about.
Please give her a chance, and see if her style is for you. Her audience is growing steadily, but she deserves so much more, and I so want her to see that!
Here is one of her recent posts, where she talks about meeting her favorite writer!
Thanks so much, my friend! I’ll be back soon to tell you about more friends that I love.
Until then, I’ll leave you with this:
There is a secret, held by the wise
Though ignored, and oft not recognized
If you wish to claim your ultimate prize,
your blessed end,
speak not of yourself, but speak well of a friend!
