Thanks! And now, on with the story!
Now a king will need a queen
as custom so demands
Or else his mighty castle
does remain on shifting sands.
So seeking alliance with the king
of a closely neighboring land
Ergon invites him to visit
and to ask for his daughter’s hand.
As children, with this maiden fair
both brothers would play.
Alas, but naught for Solen,
did Kora’s true feelings lay.
But as to her father’s wishes,
she would not betray
So accepted was his proposal —
with trepidation and dismay.
A wedding was planned
with the greatest of haste.
No great ceremony,
no flowers, no music in the place.
For those blinded by power,
it is often the case
Time is always a thing
they believe they must not waste.
Taking it upon herself, Kora did,
to go look around
The glorious castle
and all the surrounding grounds.
But as she excitedly explored,
making the happiest sounds
Soon to the true king’s chamber,
the door she had found.
One warm summer night,
she sneaked silently from bed
Seeking the place
where her love lay his head.
She knew he would remain,
as it was said
The one to which she wished
that she had been wed.
Deep in the blackness
of the castle’s dark core
In actions that are fated
to be known evermore
the portal’s faint outline
caused her spirit to soar
and holding her breath,
she quietly opened the door.
Now these things are but known
to those who are wise
Despite all of the fear
our dreams use to disguise
As I’m sure you,
fair reader,
will now realize
The only light ever needed
was the love in her eyes.
Now did Ergon come running,
descending the stairs
Shouting with anger
and muttering prayers.
Entering the open door,
he stopped and just stared.
For of his imminent demise,
he was now aware.
Feeling sheer terror,
like his heart had been speared
Ergon’s ending would be worse
than he ever could fear.
Despite never allowing
a light to come near
As will always be true,
love’s power appeared.
And as good king Solen
did now awake
The mad prince’s body
started to shake.
The shrillest of screams,
his mouth, it did make.
And his true form,
their dear uncle,
would now retake.
So it came to be
on that most wondrous day
commemorated each year
on the Fifteenth of May
The blessed couple was united,
their vows for to say.
Never had a union been
more happy and gay.
The spell was now broken,
all was once again right.
The people were happy,
the future was bright.
Solen’s kingdom was restored
to its former might.
All for the power
of Love’s holy light.
Afterword
It is easy to think of fairy tales, myths, and legends as light-hearted things. Stories that are wonderful for amusing children, but irrelevant to the struggles we go through.
But since the dawn of civilization and even before, these stories have told us of the truths that exist beyond truth.
For countless generations, they have been the means of sharing the light of understanding.
They are the story of YOU!
You play every role in this drama.
You are the Queen, eternally giving birth to your conceptions, and dying as you give life.
You are the King, haunted by the loss and separation of your loved ones, who must be driven to blindness in your despair before you can again see right.
You are the firstborn son, Like Cain of the original man, Adam, and like Isaac’s son Esau, born of ego, driven by the senses, consumed with possession and the things of the world.
You are the second son, who must always supplant the first, who is of the spirit. Empty. Pure. A being of Light. Destined to know yourself as the Father, and inherit the Kingdom.
You are the uncle, letting yourself be tossed around by the whims of fate, and not exerting the power of your will.
You are the serfs, enslaved to a cruel lord, and awaiting salvation.
You are the wizard, casting spells in a vain attempt to get what you want from the world.
And you are the Princess, healing the world with the Light of your Love.
