I wrote this while washing the dishes this morning - a wonderful meditation! I highly recommend it.)
Walls only imprison,
they never protect.
Fear falls over the region,
makes every brother suspect.
Hearts fill with doubt,
resentment is bred,
when subjected to all the lies we are fed
Hate moves in with force
and captures the soul.
Restricting its freedom.
Dictating where it will go.
Dreams become solid,
love just a tale,
told by the ones who would put up for sale
the very essence,
the core
of a human being
Giving it away for safety’s illusory feeling.
When will we know we are one?
That we cannot be divided?
When will our pain and our fear have subsided?
Subsided enough to believe in our unity?
When will our pleas get through to the
ones who seek to perpetuate hate?
The thought that this hell
need not be our fate.
That peace is our right.
That it’s never too late.
