It can be but my gratitude I earn.
Who should give thanks for my salvation but myself?
And how, but through salvation
can I find the Self
to Whom my thanks are due?
A Course in Miracles — Lesson 217
We are told to be grateful.
Grateful for the goodness we receive.
For the experiences of life.
Grateful For life itself.
But who are we to be thankful to?
Who is there to be thankful to, but the Self?
For there is nothing but the Self.
And what can we be thankful for
but to know the Self,
and to know that the Self is all there is?
What is there to be grateful for but this knowing,
which is the salvation from the tyranny of the ego
and the ego’s reflection that is the world?
What can we be thankful for
but to know there is a world beyond this world?
A land of milk and honey,
A continent of Christ consciousness.
Gratitude is then a never-ending spiral,
Kundalini energy rising in swirling splendor,
Sufi dervishes in an endless dance,
A Mobius strip that twists upon itself into infinity.
Be grateful, Precious Child of God!
I love you so much!
Namaste
I love how this passage flips gratitude on its head. Instead of looking outward, it reminds us to be thankful to our own inner Self. It’s like discovering that the true source of all the good stuff in life is within us. Such a refreshing way to think about gratitude—more of an ongoing dance with our own consciousness. Thanks for sharing this thought-provoking piece!
I love a Course in Miracles! I am not surprised that you are a student as well, Aaron. It delights me so much to stumble on ACiM quotes in your posts. Wishing you a magical day!
