Kamala, Kamala

Taking my shot to "Do Something"
7

Kamala, Kamala
America’s got its eyes on ya.
Daughter of young immigrants
Now a step away from president.

Run as fast, run as far
But always show just who you are
Advice given by her parents
Dream a dream then dare to dare it

Child of India and Jamaica
which birthed the poet
Who sang of one love and our right to know it
Champion of the middle class
Prosecutor and a true bad-ass

Don’t just stand there, Do Something.
Never will she stoop to kiss the ring
Of cruel tyrants and bad actors,
All those vicious malefactors
They won’t ever intimidate her.

On a mission, an all-consuming vision
Not to be by the past imprisoned.
Full of Joy, full of laughter
No more nonsense - that’s what we’re after.

Kamala, Kamala
Trump
has got eyes on ya.
He knows he’ll never win that September debate
With his tired politics of hate.

She won’t disparage our heroic Vets
To whom we owe an eternal debt.

Autocrats like Kim Jong Un and Putin
She won’t play, but refute them
And their messages of hate.
I promise you it’s not too late.

Quite the opposite of the Orange bully,
She’ll read and grasp the Issues fully.
Trained in Toughness, gifted grit
She won’t be taking any sh….

It won’t be long until it’s time
To elect one who’s not committed
But took on crimes
like sexual assault and child abuse
Recognizes a woman’s right to choose
I hope my language is not obtuse

Kamala, Kamala
The GOPs
got it on eyes on ya.
Keep reaching out to those conservatives
Who recognize what freedom is
Their party is gone it’s lost its way
Let them know it’s a brand new day
Take shelter and know there’s another way.
We know this truth, hope springs eternal
We won’t be witness to democracy’s funeral

Kamala, Kamala
The world’s got its eyes on ya
Full of strength and full of grace
She’ll keep our country in its rightful place
A force for peace in Gaza and Ukraine
And show America’s not lost its brain.

Taken on both kingpins and drug lords
Never minces any words
Focused on the broken mess of immigration
Which threatens to tear apart our nation

Kamala, Kamala
Coach Tim
has got his eyes on ya.
A VP who seeks to help those down on their luck
Not one who sees couches as toys to f…

Fight for the right to tell our story
We don’t seek a return to former glory
But to be better, kinder, stronger
We’ll not be fooled any longer.

75 days to tackle and block
Kamala - our strength, our rock
She’ll fight for us, every person you see
Instead of the chorus of - me, me, me

The convention was a joyous celebration
Of America’s promise - a democratic coronation
But there’s still so much to do
And so it all begins with you.

Write a poem, write a song
Tell your truth of right and wrong
And pray that we can all get along

Write a story or make a friend.
To their voice, your ear do lend
The time is now, time to begin
For when we fight,
you know we win

Spread this message far and wide
That in fear will we not abide,
And our favorite daughter is on our side.

We mustn’t bury our heads in the sand
It’s up to us to save this land
Land of the brave, home of the free
Bastion of sweet liberty.

This is our shot, like the Hamilton show
We won’t throw away our right to vote
To save the soul of our beloved union
We won’t sit down we’ll never turn in-
to distrust and pessimism
It’s up to us to fix the system.

I’m no Amanda Gorman, no poet laureate
Yet still, I’ll seek to share her story
It tells the saga of the American dream
That says we all are on one team.

For too long I thought that Spirituality
meant to be one of neutrality
But I’ve made peace with a new reality
What we need is more activity
It’s not the time for bland passivity.

Let this be a call to arms
To both those in big cities and from small farms
We won’t let our country come to harm
By falling for a small man’s charms

To meet the future that we dream of
Must we hold this thought, from all others above
Though we may not be family by blood
Know we all are…

Family by love.
